Make A Difference
Support drives our mission forward, helping us eliminate addiction.
Hanley Foundation knows the value of lifesaving Narcan. In previous years, we have supplied Narcan in Glades, Hendry, and Okeechobee counties to community members and law enforcement through a federal grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration. To further combat the opioid crisis, in 2024, Hanley Foundation installed emergency Narcan dispensers in locations across Palm Beach, Okeechobee, Hendry, and Glades counties thanks to funding from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Southeast Florida Behavioral Health Network, and the Health Resources and Services Administration. The initiative aims to provide immediate access to Narcan, a medication proven to reverse opioid overdoses, in critical locations across the region.
Narcan, also known as naloxone, is an FDA-approved, over-the-counter medication that can rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose if administered in time. One of the significant advantages of Narcan is its safety—there are no harmful side effects, even if administered to someone who is not experiencing an overdose. Narcan is an essential tool in the fight against the alarming rise in opioid-related fatalities.
Each Narcan cabinet, strategically placed inside publicly accessible buildings, can hold up to 50 boxes of Narcan, each containing two doses of the lifesaving medication. The cities now equipped with these dispensers include Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth Beach, West Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Okeechobee, Labelle, Clewiston, and Moorehaven. These locations were chosen based on their accessibility and the potential to reach those in urgent need.
The importance of this initiative cannot be overstated. With the opioid crisis continuing to devastate communities across the nation, easy and immediate access to Narcan is crucial. Overdoses can happen quickly, and having Narcan readily available in public spaces can mean the difference between life and death. The dispensers installed by Hanley Foundation are not just a resource; they are a lifeline for individuals and families affected by opioid addiction.
By providing free and accessible Narcan kits, Hanley Foundation is taking a proactive stance in saving lives and empowering communities to take immediate action in the face of an overdose emergency.
Hanley Foundation’s commitment to expanding access to Narcan reflects a broader effort to address the opioid epidemic at the community level. By placing these dispensers in high-traffic areas, the Foundation is ensuring that help is never far away for those who need it most.
When every second counts, the availability of Narcan in public spaces represents a significant step forward in the fight against opioid overdoses. Hanley Foundation’s efforts are a powerful reminder of the importance of preparedness, compassion, and community support in overcoming the challenges posed by the opioid crisis.
