Boca Raton, Fla. (October 16, 2024)Hanley Foundation will host its fourth annual Brice Makris Brunch on Sunday, December 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Boca Raton. John Makris, a board member of the Hanley Foundation, and his wife Michelle, will chair the event honoring their son Brice who tragically passed away at 23 from fentanyl poisoning. All funds raised will support the Hanley Foundation’s Brice Makris Endowment Fund, providing scholarships for lifesaving treatments and funding addiction prevention programs.

“We continue to honor Brice’s memory,” said Michelle Makris. “Addiction is a brain disorder, and sadly, it ultimately took our son. By sharing his story and fundraising, we hope to support others facing similar challenges, while honoring Brice’s commitment to helping 100 individuals overcome substance use disorder.”

MDVIP, a national network of primary care physicians, will be honored with the Hanley Foundation Community Spirit Award in honor of Brice Makris. This award recognizes MDVIP’s exceptional commitment to personalized, patient-centered health care.

“There are numerous gifted and capable individuals in our community of all ages, like Brice, who are grappling with substance use disorders,” said Rachel Docekal, CEO of Hanley Foundation. “Events like this play a crucial role in destigmatizing this disease, sharing messages of hope, and raising the necessary funds to enhance our substance use prevention and recovery programs.”

Honorary guests include George Petrocelli, Dr. Nathan Nachlas, David Dweck, Bruce Spizler, Jan Savarick, Matt Savarick, and FAU faculty members Dean Naelys Luna and Dr. Katie Burke.
