Featuring three levels of programming, the Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) course is an evidence-based program designed to promote positive health and personal development, and help young adults navigate the challenges of growing up. Available for middle schoolers, high schoolers, and young adults over 16 years old, these life skills programs are taught sequentially over several years.
Goals of the Botvin LifeSkills Program
Through the Botvin program, students develop self-management skills that help them enhance self-esteem, reduce stress and anxiety, manage anger, and make healthy decisions. They also learn how to communicate clearly, build relationships, and avoid violence.
Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development
All Botvin coursework is certified by the Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development organization as Certified Model Plus Programs.
Botvin LST Middle School Program
Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) is a program that runs over three years and is available to middle school students (grades 6 through 8). Class sessions are 30-45 minutes each, taught either two to three times a week until completion with the intensive schedule, or once a week on the extended schedule. Through the program, students learn self-management skills like self-esteem building, problem solving, stress reduction, anger management and overcoming shyness. Students also learn how to communicate effectively, build positive relationships and resist peer pressure related to alcohol, drugs and other substances. This Blueprints Certified Model Plus Program is recognized by the Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development organization.
Botvin LST High School Program
Designed for high school students in grades 9 through 12, this Blueprints-certified program consists of 10 class sessions. Each session is 40-45 minutes, with the option for an intensive schedule that meets two to three times a week, or an extended once-a-week schedule. This program is focused on helping students develop strategies for healthy decision-making, stress reduction and anger management. Communication is a tenet of the program, during which students learn how to build healthy relationships and understand the consequences of substance use and risk-taking.
Botvin LST Transitions Program
For students 16 and older, the Transitions Program is an interactive and skills-based curriculum to promote positive health and personal development, with a specialized focus on helping students transition into the workforce or higher education. It includes six sessions, lasting 40-45 minutes each, either over an intensive schedule (two to three times a week until completion) or an extended schedule (once a week for 6 weeks).
Through the program, participants build competency in key skills such as decision-making, stress management, time and money management, relationships, substance use, risk taking and more.
