DESCRIPTION:Join Hanley Foundation and the Mark Garwood Foundation for the 9th Annual SHOOT FOR THE MOON – Sporting Clay Charity Event\, Friday\, November 7\, 2025 in Palm City to raise funds for the Mark Garwood Phoenix Scholarship Program. \nRegistration\, breakfast\, and a raffle will kick off the morning at 7:30. Before the teams demonstrate their skills on the competition course\, Shooting Club representatives will present a brief safety briefing and orientation. Immediately following the sporting clay event\, lunch will be served\, a live auction will take place\, individual and team awards will be presented\, and the 2026 Mark Garwood Phoenix Scholarship recipients will be introduced.\n​\nAll ammunition\, clays\, trappers\, scorers\, and golf carts are included in your registration. Individuals and team members are responsible for providing their own firearms.\n​\nAll proceeds from SHOOT FOR THE MOON will benefit the Mark Garwood Phoenix Scholarship program. \nRegister Now\n \n\n \n  \nAbout the Mark Garwood Foundation\nMark Garwood possessed an insatiable curiosity about life\, a passion for living\, and a loving and generous heart. Although he was diagnosed with type I diabetes as a teen\, he never let it slow him down. His athletic abilities allowed him to excel in a wide variety of sports. Mark’s charm and persuasiveness were balanced by his genuine sincerity in all relationships. No matter what his circumstances might be\, Mark was always available to help his friends.\n​\nMark was assaulted during a pick-up basketball game while attending college in Orlando in 2009. He became addicted to pain medications as a result of his hospitalization\, and his life spiraled out of control. Mark dropped out of school\, alienated friends and family\, and got into legal trouble. It was clear to Mark that he was on a destructive path\, and he was determined to turn his life around.  Through detox\, rehab\, and participation in twelve-step programs\, Mark began to achieve recovery.  He found spiritual and emotional support among his peers in a recovery residence.  Mark secured his dream job and was embarking on an exciting and productive career path. \nMark died from complications associated with his addiction and diabetes after a five-year battle with substance use disorder. In 2014\, the Mark Garwood Phoenix Scholarship Program was founded to provide hope\, change lives\, and build a better future for those in recovery. \n

DESCRIPTION:About The Cory Bartle Memorial Fund\nCory Joseph Bartle passed away on Oct 22\, 2022. He was 34 years old. \nCory mastered his skills in culinary arts by the age of 25 and his work brought him an incredible amount of joy. He was an avid outdoorsman\, loved skateboarding\, and the beach. Cory was passionate about the people he loved and was willing to help people in any way he could. Cory was working hard on his recovery and wanted to be free of addiction. Unfortunately\, an accidental overdose took his life. \nIn honor of Cory’s life\, his family created the Cory Bartle Memorial Fund to support efforts to combat addiction and bring awareness about the devastating addiction crisis our generation is facing. \nDonations made to the Cory Bartle Memorial Fund\, administered by the Hanley Foundation\, will provide lifesaving scholarships for individuals with substance use disorders who would not otherwise be able to receive treatment. SUMMARY:Through a Child’s Eyes: Understanding Addiction and Recovery
DESCRIPTION:Many children face multiple challenges growing up in families hurt by addiction to drugs and alcohol. All too often\, kids are the first hurt and the last helped. This workshop explores the healing stages for children and shares prevention strategies\, key messages\, and essential resources which can make a difference in their lives. \nJoin Hanley Foundation and the National Association for Children Impacted by Addiction (NACoA) on Thursday\, September 12\, in West Palm Beach\, where we will discuss the Children’s Family Program coming to South Florida through the Hanley Foundation and explore Hanley’s immediate and long-term plans to provide healing support and services to children impacted by addiction. \n \nJerry Moe\, MA\, is the Senior Clinical Advisor at NACoA. He is the National Director of Children’s Programs\, Emeritus\, at Hazelden Betty Ford. Jerry is an author\, speaker and consultant on issues for children and families hurt by addiction. He has spent over four decades working in the treatment and recovery worlds. Among his twenty books are Through a Child’s Eyes: Understanding Addiction and Recovery and the Beamer Series for kids. Jerry’s work is featured in the PBS documentary Lost Childhood and has contributed to Emmy Award winning programs on both Nickelodeon and Sesame Street. \n  \nPeggy McGillicuddy\, MEd\, CTSS\, has worked in the field of mental health/addiction for over 20 years. With the help of the Boca Chamber and the Makris family\, Hanley Foundation is increasing awareness of substance use disorders in South Palm Beach County. Her research and writing interests focus on gender-specific and trauma-informed care for women that reduces stigma and encourages health empowerment. Heather has been awarded several external grants for research involving women’s health issues and her publications emphasize the importance of shared decision-making for perinatal women who are opioid dependent. \nDinner will be provided and CMEs will be granted for physicians and nurse practitioners in attendance.

Dr. Morales is a Charter Member of the American Board of Addiction Medicine\, a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (A.S.A.M.)\, and a faculty member at the Florida Atlantic University College of Medicine\, where he has been instrumental in introducing the topic of substance use disorder into the curriculum and the residency training programs. \n  \nVanina Hochman\, MA\, LMFT:\nVanina Hochman was born in Buenos Aires\, Argentina. She has a Masters in Marriage and Family and has been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over a decade. Vanina Hochman is a valuable and respected professional excelling in treating patients affected by the intersecting worlds of behavioral health\, mental health\, and substance use disorder treatment.
